A final bit of doggerel
Christine Warltier, who won the first annual Doggerel Cup Limerick Contest, expressed gratitude upon receiving the news. She said,
Today I am feeling “best pleased,”
My concerns and my worries you’ve eased.
The cup, she is mine!
On my mantel she’ll shine,
The poet in me well appeased.
Soon after, in her eagerness to see the trophy, Ms. Warltier wrote the following bit of doggerel:
Just how big is the beast going to be?
Will it shine for the whole world to see?
Of diamonds and gold
And riches untold,
Will it cause us to drop to our knee?
The need to find out is unstopping,
As we get back up after dropping,
With jewels encrusted?
To me it’s entrusted,
The honour so huge and so whopping!

Doggone it, those trophies are majestic!
Majestic is one word for them.
Love that final word of the final limerick, “whopping.” Definitely doggerel.
