10 delights of retirement 2

Crabapple PerspectiveThings to savour, things not common to the work life, things to do for the hell of it

Sometimes we focus on the worries of retirement – lack of a pay cheque, not knowing what to do with ourselves, not knowing who we are anymore, pending decrepitude – but retirement brings some kick-ass, seriously good moments.  And moments are what make a day, make a life.  I thought it worthwhile to list a few of these moments so we could properly relish them.

I’d be thrilled to hear what other delights you’ve experienced.   Please e-mail your thoughts to me at .  I’m sure we could come up with a second list.

Enjoy!  Mariella.

10 Delights

  1. Wearing pyjamas all day long (and putting them to good use by napping in the afternoon)

  1. Listening with glee to the morning traffic report, a silly grin on your face as you linger over coffee and a novel

  1. NOT going back to work after a long vacation

  1. Shopping for groceries when the aisles are empty and the shelves full

  1. Sleeping until your body tells you to wake up… no alarm clock

  1. Purging your wardrobe of all unwanted business attire and making room for more true-you clothes

  1. Having your head full of your interests and no one else’s

  1. Spending a Monday on an adventure trip – heading out to who-knows-where to do who-knows-what

  1. Finding pleasure in day-to-day chores, which can now stretch out a bit longer without being stressful

  1. Sorting out a cupboard (some say it’s better than sex – the pleasure lasts longer)

Yeah, good list, Mariella! I’ve done almost all of those things.
Walking for forty minutes to pay a bill in person, just because I now have the time….

Walking forty minutes to pay a bill… it wouldn’t normally show up on a list of delights – if you were working – but somehow it DOES sound delightful! Thanks, Pauline.
